Patrick Medrano is a Houston-based contemporary artist working in painting, sculpture, and public art. A full-time artist for more than three decades, Medrano has developed a distinctive visual language that merges industrial materials, layered surfaces, and expressive form. His work explores themes of transformation, cultural identity, and the relationship between the built environment and personal narrative. Medrano’s work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and internationally, including exhibitions in Paris, Istanbul, Athens, and Peru. In addition to gallery exhibitions, he has completed public art projects across Houston, bringing his large-scale work into the civic landscape. 

 Patrick Medrano (b. 1973, Victoria, Texas) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture, and mixed media. His work is characterized by a balance of raw materiality and intentional structure, combining expressive mark-making with constructed form. While his foundation has always been rooted in visual art, Medrano spent a decade as the lead singer of the punk band Red Orange, an extension of his creative life rather than a departure from it. He moved to Houston in the late 1990s, where he became embedded in the city’s creative community. In 2002, he met photographer and creative partner Katy Anderson, marking the beginning of an ongoing collaborative and personal relationship that continues to influence his work.

 In an effort to not sound insincere, it’s important to understand that since an early age I have devoted my life and mind to the remarkable world of the arts. With no formal arts education but an un-moveable belief in my own artistic vision, it has been a journey that has taken my art and myself to places as far away as museums in Peru and Paris, France. With only a great understanding of what it means to be blessed, I can say that that when I was young I sometimes thought if you told too much of your vision perhaps it would be scared away, never to return again. So I’ll simply say that my art is absolutely from the heart and created just for you “the viewer”. - Patrick Medrano
