Patrick Medrano is a Houston-based contemporary artist working across painting, sculpture, and mixed media. A full-time artist for more than three decades, Medrano has developed a distinctive visual language that merges layered surfaces, found materials, expressive mark-making, and sculptural form into emotionally charged works that feel both raw and deeply human.

His work explores themes of transformation, cultural identity, mythology, memory, humor, vulnerability, and the relationship between personal narrative and the world around us. Balancing instinct with construction, his pieces often combine industrial textures, symbolic imagery, and handmade imperfections to create works that feel simultaneously intimate and monumental. Medrano’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, including exhibitions in Paris, Istanbul, Athens, and Peru. His work is held in prominent private collections, and he has completed public art projects throughout Houston, including contributions to Meow Wolf Houston’s Radio Tave.

Select works featured here also include collaborative pieces created with his wife and creative partner of 24 years, photographer and visual artist Katy Anderson, through their joint studio practice, ANDERSON+MEDRANO. Together, their collaborative works merge photography, painting, sculpture, and constructed materials into layered visual narratives that explore atmosphere, duality, emotional tension, and the intersection between structure and fluidity. Their process is intuitive and organic, allowing independent works and disciplines to gradually converge into singular hybrid compositions.
